The gear pump forces oil to the planetary and the drive sprocket sleeve. Because the pump is driven by the mainshaft, the pump housing floats in the rear housing and is held in place by tabs that sit in pockets in the rear housing.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EOver time those tabs wear into the rear housing and the aluminum pump housing, causing a small leak. The leak usually happens while driving, not while parked, so it often goes unnoticed.
